1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is free for any child who has not yet entered kindergarten (typically ages 0-5). The goal is simple: Read 1,000 books together before your child enters kindergarten! Studies show that the brain develops the most rapidly during the first 1,000 days of a child's life. Reading with children is a wonderful way to help them develop early literacy skills before they enter formal schooling!

Many parents ask how long this program takes. The answer is: it depends! If you read one bedtime story every night for three years, you will have read 1,095 books. However, if you read three books a day to your child, you will have also read 1,095 books. The most important thing is to keep it fun and positive! To help keep things interesting, the library also provides incentives along the way.
